Ball Gowns: Part One
Choosing an outfit for a formal event can be a bit of a mission. There are quite a lot of things to consider. What length and style? What colour? Will I be over or under dressed? That is why we have created a guide to formal gowns. So, no matter where you’re going you are sure to be belle of the ball! First off let’s start with the basics.
What is a ball gown?
The simple answer is a dress that is full length that looks luxurious and elegant. Those are the key features that make a dress fit for a formal occasion. After that there are so many styles available from big princess dresses to sleek and floor sweeping evening gowns.
When to wear a ball gown?
Now that you are familiar with what a ball gown is, let’s look at where you might wear one. An important occasion will be a school formal / prom, or homecoming. This is something that you will look back on in years to come. So, it’s important to find the formal evening dress that will make you remembered for all the right reasons.
Sequinned ball gowns are a statement maker that will turn every head.

Another special event where a gown is a must is for a wedding. A bridesmaid needs to look gorgeous in a gown without upstaging the bride of course ;-)

Lastly you might have a black or white tie event. White tie is very formal and requires a conservative dress so nothing that shows a lot of skin. Black tie is a little less formal but still requires sophistication. To do this try creating a balanced look. If you have a neutral colour, then try a dress with a bold feature like a mermaid ball gown. If you choose a brighter shade keep it simple. That’s the where covered.
Now it’s what with?
Choosing your shoes and accessories can be just as much of a big deal as the dress. With a ball gown the best shoes to go for are high heels or high heel dance shoes. These give you a good posture and you’ll probably need to wear these because of the floor length.
For jewellery you need something sparkly and stunning. Crystal chokers (click here to see the products) are trendy but will also keep that look of class. It gives you the best of both worlds. Finish off with some studs and a clutch bag and you’re ready!
That’s part one of our formal wear guide complete. You know the basics to dressing for a formal occasion. Keep an eye out for part two which will discuss matching your dress with your partner’s outfit. You’ll be the best dressed couple for any event!Share:
